Top albums

March 28, 2007

working on a top100 list, here's top 20 at the moment:
1. Radiohead Amnesiac
favorite album by my favorite band, lazy choice actually, considering I don't listen to it that much, but still have to give them some credits.

2. Comus First Utterance
i'm a sucker for free folk, this album just have all my favorite elements in it, hyper vocal, weird instruments, fiddling strings. ***This album is released in 1971.***

3. Boredoms Super AE
feel the noise.

4. Boris Akuma No Uta
actually each Boris albums reflect a different side of Boris, drone, noise, black metal, or just straight up rock, so it's hard to choose one

5. Godspeed You Black Emperor F#A#∞
Godspeed deliver much more than most post rock bands capable of, and they still are. Dead Flag Blues send shiver down my bones, the monologue in part 1 is one of the most scary thing I've ever heard.

6. Sonic Youth Murray Street
I can listen to this album non-stop, while Daydream Nation is the most common SY choice, the album always ranked 1mm higher in my book. I miss Jim O'Rourke.

7. Scott Walker Scott 4
people who don't like this album shouldn't consider themselves music fans. Straight up pop, haunting voice with orchestra arrangements. If you don;t like Tilt/Drift, you should at least like this

8. Can Tago Mago
hmm...best Krautrock albums of all time

9. Miles Davies Bitches Brew
Miles Davies Fusion period, I was a Kind Of Blue fans before, but now digging his later albums more.

10. Lightning Bolt Wonderful Rainbow
a guitar and a drum giving you sonic attacks, simple and brutal

11. Charles Mingus Blank Saint and the Blank Lady
Charles Mingus is a fine jazz composer, and one of the few jazz bassist that can do this. Like the melody in Group Dancers

12. Nick Cave and the bad seeds No More Shall We Part
Nick Cave on piano singing dark subjects.

13. Les Rallizes Denudes Live 77
This is as loud as you can get, 70s Japanese psychedelic rock

14. Venetian Snares Rossz Csillag Alatt Szueletett
this is what I imagine a perfect IDM album would be, crazy beats messed with classical strings.

15. Sam Cooke Live at Harlem Square
This live recordings get rid of all the cheesy productions in his album recordings and show the best Sam Cooke can do, that is LIVE

16. The Millennium Begin
60s sunshine pop, pop in its best form

17. John Coltrane Love Supreme
I have yet to consider whether it's Giant steps or Olatunji concert

18. Circle Prosperkt
My first Finnish entry, more to come. Circle should rank higher...but again it's hard to decide on one album.

19. Pharaoh Sanders Karma
The Creator has a Master Plan has to be one of the best jazz piece in history

20. This Heat Deceit
it's quite unfair to label This Heat as a post punk band, there's no other post punk bands that sound like them

"I could not get through September without a battle
I faced death
I went in with my arms swinging
but i heard my own breath
I had to face that i'm still living"
The Microphones - The Glow Pt. 2

£4 to print them out, so i have to hang them on the wall

omg, it's a polar bear

March 4, 2007

parents : Look, it's a polar bear!
kids: a polar bear...
parents : OMG, look how big they are.
above conversation was repeated over and over again when I draw this, couldn't the parents think of something else to say. Like, " The Ice cap is melting, they are all gonna die soon" and look at those cute horrified little eyes....

draw this out of nastalgia, because for quite a while, everything i draw was distorted, like intentionally draw against perspective. Feels like back to school exam, all those kids that can draw exactly the same but what they draw are completely lifeless, and you know they are gonna get high marks. School survival rule #1: don't think too much, just do it blindly.
